We are currently seeking a Controller with substantial professional skills acquired from prior work experience and education. The individual in this position is responsible for all phases of accounting, including general entries, payroll, accounts receivable and collections, final financial statements, reconciling ledgers and bank accounts, and maintaining general ledger and project information in the accounting system.


  • Enter payroll data from timesheets for processing through the payroll vendor. Reconcile the payroll, preparing entries and posting into the accounting system. Enter data for disability and taxable life insurance amounts annually.

  • Process company loans and charge cards; issue and track credit cards and process closures and replacements.

  • Responsible for project accounting, interfacing with client accounting systems. Process pay applications on contract projects and waivers.

  • Prepare reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.

  • Prepare annual budget.

  • Prepare 5500's for JPRA Architects retirement plans.

  • Familiar with administration of an ESOP.

  • Process sales tax requirements for multiple states.

  • Manage insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities. Direct determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.

  • Arrange and prepare for audits of company's accounts and documentation for stock valuation.

  • Coordinate legal files, tracking of legal actions involving the company.

  • Review company financial statements for accuracy and clarity.

  • Professional degree in Accounting.

  • 10+ years of experience leading the accounting functions, preferably in an Architecture or similar firm.

  • Notary, in Oakland County.

  • Collaborative and professional work ethic.



  • Strong interpersonal skills; exceptional verbal, listening, and written communication abilities.

  • Proficient knowledge of Excel; problem-solving, and analytical skills required.



The controller reports to the President and CEO. Supervision may be given to accounting staff.


  • Work is performed in a typical office work environment using a PC or laptop.
